What Can I Expect During My First Visit to a Chiropractor?
You will complete a full medical history questionnaire and "new patient" paperwork prior to seeing the doctor. You will then consult with the doctor. This consultation is your opportunity to express your health concerns and expectations, and to ask any questions you may have pertaining to the matter. It is also for the Chiropractor to express his role in your health care and discuss your health prognosis.
A physical exam will be performed which may include orthopedic testing, reflex assessments, muscle testing, and a specific Chiropractic evaluation. In some cases x-rays may be necessary to determine an exact diagnosis and can be performed in office. (If a referral to another facility or provider is warranted, it will be given).
Following the history, exam and and any x-rays, some pain relieving therapy may be given in clinic or home instructions given. The patient is then scheduled for a return visit to go over the exam and x-rays as soon as possible regarding what is wrong, if it can be treated and an estimation of treatment time and cost.
